The philosophy of Roman might and superiority slowly gave way to the Christian movement.  

During that transition, Christian places of worship were members houses or hidden meeting places. 

The roman emperor 'Constantine the Great' made Christianity the state religion of the roman empire and building of the Christian style of Basilicas could begin in earnest.
