A change in the basic philosophy of architects led to a change in the way in which buildings were built, the materials used and why they were built.

This started in Europe, mostly in London, and quickly spread to the larger cities in the United States, where it found a welcome home.

In the US, there was not a strict traditional look to cities and so new concepts, especially ones which proved more efficient and economical caught on.
