The Greek people considered the arts essential in a civilized society and their greatest accomplishments were in the areas of architecture, sculpture and painting.

With this societal importance put on the arts and a philosophy of man seeking perfection in all aspects of life, great accomplishments were a natural outcome.

Through trade and conquest they had resources, access to stone and building materials, the population and time to accomplish the creation of a significant culture and all of its' trappings.
