Neoclassical style was a return to a more classical, less extravagant architecture, and one which included attention to detail but based more upon line, proportion and balance.

There was the French revolution, that put a scare in the establishment and made all organizations pay attention to the perception of the masses.

Churches and Government buildings were expected to be large and have a sense of grandeur, but not to be seen as 'over the top' and excessive.

Conservative buildings, classical elements, clean lines and having an unpretentious look was the type of architecture in the Neoclassical style
